Fantasy Show Outs, Let Downs and Sleepers
We are officially one-third of the way through the NFL regular season and teams are starting to show their true colors. It was also a record-breaking week with Tom Brady reaching 500 career touchdown passes, and on Monday night Drew Brees passed Peyton Manning and now holds the record for most yards thrown in the NFL!
As for our week five recap, the Chiefs and the Rams continue to rule the NFL as they both remain undefeated for yet another week. The Browns won their second straight in overtime barely squeaking a duck of a kick in against the Ravens. The Steelers offense rolls the injured Falcons defense in a 41-17 victory. The Bengals hand the Dolphins their second loss in-a-row. Odell Beckham and the Giants are off to a shaky 1-4 start this year as they lose to the Panthers this week to a last second 63-yard-BOMB from kicker Gano. The Vikings won the rematch of last years NFC Championship game 23-21 against the Eagles. Also, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are in full panic mode as they fall to 2-3 with Sunday Nights loss to the Texans. Lastly, congratulations to all the Rookie Quarterbacks who started this week because all of them won their games! This includes the Bills, Browns, Jets, and Cardinals! Now let’s talk Fantasy!
After all the noise, Big Ben and AB finally found a “Lit WiFi Connection” on Sunday against the Falcons. AB went for 101 yards and a pair of Touchdowns in their win. AB will always be in your lineup, but owners must be feeling giddy after this performance because he continues to prove year after year that he is one of the all-time greats! AB needs Conner to continue to make plays to keep the defense honest, and that will free him up in the secondary. If the Steelers want to keep winning, they will need Antonio to come up in a big way like he did this past week. Expect to see the ball going toward 84 more as the weeks go on.
Todd Gurley was a freight train the weeks five win against the Seahawks. Everyone, including myself, expected the Seahawks to roll over when the Rams came to town, especially because they were missing Earl Thomas, but it came down to the closing seconds! Gurley only went for 77 yards, but he did have 22 carries and 3 Touchdowns against the Rams Defense who is one of the top-ranked in the league. If Todd gets 22 carries every game, like he has been, keep expecting huge numbers from this RB.
Let Down: Blake Bortles
Well… Blake Bortles decided to take the day off on Sunday which led to an L for the Jags. Bortles is either GREAT or BAD; there is no in-between. Bortles threw the ball 61 times and only completed 33 of those passes. One of those 33 being a touchdown and four of those were to the wrong team. But, there is good news, the Jags still have one of the best defenses in the league, and they are on the road playing the Cowboys who have been struggling to find a rhythm. Could Bortles go for a big week again? I’ll tell you one thing, he won’t be in my lineup come Sunday.
Sleeper: Jameis Winston
Coming off a bye, Jameis Winston is looking to have a huge week against the Falcons banged up secondary. Being available in 87.3% of ESPN Fantasy Football Leagues, Winston has the utmost protentional of most of the free agent quarterbacks. With weapons like Mike Evans and Desean Jackson, and playing against that defense that Pittsburgh just sliced up, Winston has great potential to light it up this week.
BOLD PREDICTION OF THE WEEK: Winston goes for 450 yards and 4 Touchdowns against the Falcons this week. LET’S HAVE THE GREATEST WEEKEND OF FANTASY FOOTBALL IN HISTORY!!
