As the Washington Huskies get ready for an all-important game in Vegas against Oregon State, there is tournament action all over the country that will shape the look of the NCAA Tournament field. In particular, the results of 6 games today will directly impact the Dawgs’ chances of hearing their name called on Selection Sunday. Here’s your cheat sheet.

Louisville vs Florida State 9:00am

Everywhere you turn, Louisville sits atop the bubble. This game versus a Florida State team – that seems to be in ok shape – is a must for the Cardinals. Bubble teams across the land will be doing “the chop” and hoping for a resounding Seminoles’ win.

Arizona State vs Colorado 12:00pm

Much to the chagrin of Dawg fans, the Sun Devils are currently safe in just about every “experts” field. Are they milking wins against Xavier & Kansas? Have they underperformed in Pac 12 play? The answers to both questions seem to be YES. However, the road win in Lawrence and the neutral court victory versus Xavier could be the best 1-2 non-conference punch of any team in the nation. Those 2 victims could very well end up as #1 seeds this Sunday. However, an upset loss to Colorado should make ASU very vulnerable to the bubble. Go Buffs!

Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State 4:00pm

Most “experts” believe that the Sooners’ win over West Virginia on Saturday did the trick. Conspiracy theorists expect the NCAA to bend over backwards to get Trae Young into the Madness. Conversely, here is Oklahoma State that defeated Kansas twice and is looking like it might be 1 or 2 more quality wins from an at-large bid. A Cowboys’ victory over their arch-rival would be hurtful to other bubble teams. Go Sooners!

Notre Dame vs Virginia Tech 4:00pm

The Irish may be the most interesting at-large candidate in the nation. Their record and metrics don’t even land them on the bubble. However, this is where the Bonzie Colson question comes in. Colson is widely regarded as 1 of the top 15 players in the country. He missed most of the season due to injury and now is back healthy & producing. I’m certain the committee is watching very closely to evaluate whether Notre Dame with Colson is worthy of a bid. Washington could use a Hokies’ victory to end the Irish speculation.

Texas vs Iowa State 6:00pm

Despite only amassing 18 wins (and losing 13 times), Texas is loved by the computers. The biggest reason: the Longhorns have the best group of losses of any bubble team in the nation. It is more than possible that each of Texas’ 13 stumbles was to an NCAA Tournament team. Oklahoma State and Kansas State are the worst of the bunch. If the Cyclones (13-17) pull an upset here, tight sphincter muscles will abound for 4 days in Austin.

Syracuse vs North Carolina 6:00pm

The Orange stayed afloat for an at-large bid with a somewhat convincing win over lowly Wake Forest last night in the ACC Tournament. A victory over the RPI #152 Deamon Deacons is not enough to move Syracuse up on the list of candidates but it does put the perennial bubble team in position to show the committee it belongs. Tonight’s meeting with the Tar Heels might very well decide the Orange’s fate.
